The commercial department is responsible for sale & purchase and chartering of vessels.
The commercial team plans and arranges the employment of the fleet, and negotiates new acquisitions, utilisation and disposal of the shipping assets of BW Shipping in order to generate earnings. They interface with our customers and work closely with other departments to ensure seamless customer service.
The main objective of the corporate development team is to help the company grow through mergers and acquisitions.
Fleet IT
The Fleet IT department’s main objective is to maintain efficient and reliable IT systems, software and hardware, on board BW vessels and to ensure contingency plans are in place to meet any eventuality. The team provides support 24 hours a day, seven days a week to all vessels, and as such is always on call to assist with any issues or problems that may arise.
The fleet personnel team ensures that all vessels are fully staffed with qualified personnel. The team also looks after all the personnel needs of over 1,200 active sea staff, with assistance from their affiliate offices.
The marine team ensures the safe and efficient operation of all vessels managed by BW Shipping.
The marine department oversees the company’s Health, Safety and Environmental Policy, developing operating procedures in accordance with the Tanker Management and Self Assessment (TMSA) guidelines and environmental targets as set by ISO14001. The team is also responsible for determining and implementing the company’s training policy for all shipboard staff to ensure it meets operational needs.
The team is also responsible for carrying out incident investigation to identify causes and prevent recurrence of incidents.
The technical department is responsible for ensuring that all operated vessels comply with statutory requirements, as well as port state, flag state and classification requirements. The main areas of responsibility are vessel maintenance, newbuildings, and the purchase of stores and spares.
The team plans, monitors and attends any major repair work whilst the vessel is in dry dock, agreeing on the repair work to be carried out, monitoring the costs and negotiating the final settlement. They are responsible for the procurement of ship spares, consumables and technical services.
The newbuilding team monitors and manages the full process of building ships in the shipyard, both from a structural and mechanical point of view, following up on new ships to ensure the vessels perform effectively.
The operations team is responsible for the operation of the company’s vessels to ensure effective and optimum daily functioning. They monitor all safety, navigation and cargo operations. They are also responsible for ensuring relevant legislative and regulatory requirements are in place and are properly observed both at sea and ashore.
